About

Dear Reader,

This blog began during the final semester of my undergraduate degree as coursework for the “Writing for the Media” module. I focused on topics that are generally considered taboo, or just a little uncomfortable to speak about, especially for us millennials. The “About” section at the time had the following excerpt:

“Usually, we might find ourselves skirting over these topics in our lives, or beginning to ponder over one, just to let it “slip away” due to its complexity and implications. Introspection is important especially when there are countless social conventions and taboos floating aroundHow have we decided to imprint these narratives into our mental, emotional and social schema? How do we think about these issues?”

The blog URL “cracked roses” as well as the title “Breaking Bad” both allude to the idea of “cracking those rose-coloured glasses” to see the reality of certain issues.

However, the blog now additionally contains topics that interest me and topics that I think are of importance to the modern world. Writing about the environment and presenting my personal research in a digestible manner, articles about pseudo-sciences, or interesting cultural phenomena are the sort of pieces you will encounter here. But don’t worry – breaking the “bad” taboos will continue, too!

As always, inputs and healthy arguments and discussions are always welcome.
