The Problem With Religion as an Institution

Religion

Typically, a religion should mean a personal relationship with a higher being that you believe in, and whose values you follow. However, historically, religion has existed as an institution – an organisation that is located in culture and society with a certain collective purpose. In the podcast below, Piya, Joanne and I discuss the problems with religion as an institution. Although we do not go into great detail in order to keep the podcast short and compelling, we touch on issues such as blind-following, forcing beliefs, the reinforcement of the Self/Other dynamic as well as Qwerty keyboards!(?) Tune in to find out and let us know your thoughts!

This discussion is not intended to denigrate religions in any way. Instead, we try to look at the overarching reality of religion as an institution, the positive and negative implications of it, as well as the things we need to be conscious of when actively being a part of religious institutions.

*I suggest you listen to the podcast with your computer speakers and not earphones; I did not have access to a high-quality recorder, so in some places, the sound is Sharp. You’ve been warned; Enjoy!
